SCSI CD-ROM access light blinks every few seconds due to SCSI device accessed.
Cause:
When the 'Auto insert notification' option is enabled in Device Manager, Windows 95 polls every couple of seconds to see if there is a CD in the CD-ROM drive. Most CD-ROM drives return an answer directly, but some drives blink the drive light every time a SCSI drive (or any SCSI device) is accessed.
Solution:
To prevent this behavior disable the 'Auto insert notification' option in Device Manager.
1) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
2) Select 'Settings' and select 'Control Panel'. (The 'Control Panel' window appears.)
3) Double-click the 'System' icon. (The 'System Properties' dialog box appears.)
4) Click the 'Device Manager' tab, double-click 'CDROM', and then double-click the installed CD-ROM device.
5) Click the 'Settings' tab, and clear the 'Auto insert notification' check box.
6) Click 'OK' to close the CD-ROM drive 'Properties' dialog box.
NOTE: If the CD-ROM drive is connected to a SCSI hard disk controller, these steps may not prevent the CD-ROM access light from blinking. When this occurs, the CD-ROM access light is blinking because Windows 95 is polling the SCSI bus, not because the 'Auto Insert Notification' option is enabled.
7) Click 'OK' to close the 'System Properties' dialog box. (The 'System Settings Change' dialog box.)
8) Click 'Yes' to restart the computer.
